Catch a Wave at the Pipeline

January 2, 2008 Dad and Mom were able to go to Hawaii courtesy of BYU Hawaii. Their testing system needed to be rebuilt, so Dad snagged John Dexter from BYU Idaho and off we went. We were able to spend almost 2 weeks there. Dad and John had to work, but we got a few hours off one afternoon, and had the weekends to play like tourists, go to the Swap Meet, the Pineapple Plantation for pineapple ice cream, and Matsumoto's for their world-famous shave ice.

We hit the Pipeline on the North Shore at just the right time to see the 30 foot waves and the surfers. This was just like the competitions you see on television.

Dad disembarking from the USS Bowfin

Can you imagine claustrophobic Dad on a submarine? He's always wanted to tour the USS Bowfin when we've been in Hawaii in the past, but never took the chance. This time he and John took the tour, and Dad said it really wasn't too bad, but he'd never be able to go out to sea for any length of time with all the sailors aboard. He said the tour was really kind of cool.
